Summer 2011: The Curse of C&tO!

Hi!

Following a slot at Bradninch festival (thanks guys, it was great!) we’re currently back in the practise room, working on some new songs with our new and improved lineup (we have an amazing new drummer!). We’re working on new material, which hopefully we’ll be able to to record one day. This is where you can help us! We’re looking to raise the funds to record our debut album through crowdfunding! We have a live pitch set up here!. If you donate to the band, we will reward you greatly:

Rewards

Invest £30 and get
The Album (physical and digital) ! + Badge + Physical and Digital Copy of our first two e.ps – “By Your Hand I am Spared” and “I” + t-shirt + album credit
Invest £50 and get
The album & badge + the e.p’s + two solo albums by ben tallamy & tim bland of the band + demo tracks + a t-shirt + album credit
Invest £200 and get
The album & badge + the e.p’s + two solo albums by members of the band + demo tracks + a t-shirt + album credit + we’ll come and play a show for you in your garden or other suitable location (UK)
Invest £300 and get
A HOMEMADE FULLY FUNCTIONAL THEREMIN! + The album & badge + the e.p’s + two solo albums by members of the band + demo tracks + a t-shirt + album credit

So please, if you can help us we’d greatly appreciate it! Of course, we feel a bit unhappy about essentially begging, but we’ve self-invested so much in the last e.p and only just recouped, we figured pre-selling the album might be the only way it’ll get made!

See you soon,

C&tO

oh me oh my: twenty eleven + some tracks from the archive

Hello! It’s been a while since we’ve updated the site. This is mainly because we’ve had the usual hibernation period, plus tim broke his leg. Anyway, we’re moving forwards again now kicking off with a show Sunday May 22nd at Timepiece Bar, Exeter. From here, we’re currently looking to record again this year with something maybe even getting released in 2011! We’re going to be adding shows and will hopefully keep this site a bit more up to date from here on in.

If you look to the right, you’ll find a collection of tracks from the archive, from our first e.p ‘I’, our free digitally released collection of out-takes and demo recordings ‘WE ARE FREE’, right through to our most recent release ‘BY YOUR HAND I AM SPARED‘. Enjoy! We’ll change these from time to time, so do check back.

Right, that’s it! See you Sunday. xx

Now booking 2010/2011

Following a successful 2010 that saw the release of their second e.p, Exeter based band Catherine and the Owl are now looking to book shows and festival appearences in 2011.

The band, who span genres from alternative folk to indie-pop rock, built a good festival pedigree in 2009/2010 – playing at major events across Devon such as Bradninch Festival, the rapidly emerging Wattsfest and Lynton and Lynmouth’s Llama Festival.

2010 saw the release of their second e.p ‘By Your Hand, I Am Spared’, available through all major digital distributors via Exeter label Fey Records.

They are now looking to consolidate their previous festival success and expand in to new territories, having honed their live skills supporting such acts as indie legend Wojtek Godsisz (formerly of Symposium), American hipsters Enon and Ill Ease, BBC Radio 2 folk award nominated Jim Causley and BBC Radio 2 folk award winner Jackie Oates.

Catherine and the Owl are a unique act, drawing an ever increasing fanbase in Devon. They stand out through the use of a diverse range of instruments ranging from rock standards – guitars, drums, keyboards and electric bass through to more eclectic selections such as glockenspiel, flute, clarinet, mandolins and musical saw to the outright curiosity that is their homebuilt Theremin.

Never failing to entertain as a live band, Catherine and the Owl have received praise from the music press for their two e.p releases and have featured as Exeter FM’s band of the week three times.

Praise for Catherine and the Owl:

C&TO balance, violently dramatic emotions and themes with an inventive acoustic style and meticulous playing.”
– Mark Dishman of Rocks Magazine, review of EP ‘I’.

Possibly one of the most powerful, haunting tracks I’ve heard in a long time
- James Santer of Exeter FM on the track ‘The Cellar Song.’

July!

Quick update:

We had a great time at Bradninch Festival back in June. We had a few preview copies of our new e.p on sale too, so thanks if you picked one up!

We also had an amazingly fun time visiting James Santer at exeter.fm last night. We spoke about the new cd and played A.T&Tea and Cirque Du Gato live, and we’ll probably host those sessions on this site in the future. Thanks to James and all at Exeter.fm

The e.p is getting its full release from August 2nd via fey records. Thanks to fey it’ll be available on itunes, spotify, amazon and the usual digital distribution channels. You’ll also be able to order the cd from us, or get it at our live shows.

We’ve updated the live shows page too to include our summer touring plans! Get in touch if you want to book us via this site!

That’s it for now!

xx

By Your Hand I Am Spared

Hi

Just a quick note to say that we’re very excited to announce that our second extended player is very close to being released. The discs are currently being printed and the tracks are being mastered. Barring the end of the world, it’ll be on sale by Saturday 12th of June. Amazingly, the stars have fallen into place in just the right way so that this date also marks our return to Bradninch Festival!

You can preview the first track from the e.p at our myspace, on facebook or via the player to the right!

Introducing: Catherine and the Owl

Fresh from recording and mixing their second self released E.P for imminent release, the Exeter-based sextet Catherine and the Owl are now preparing their touring schedule for 2010.

The band, who span genres from alternative folk to indie-pop rock, built a good festival pedigree in 2009 – playing at major events across Devon such as Bradninch Festival, the rapidly emerging Wattsfest and Lynton and Lynmouth’s Llama Festival.

Catherine and the Owl stand out from other bands through their use of a diverse range of instruments ranging from rock standards – guitars, drums, keyboards and electric bass through to more eclectic selections such as glockenspiel, flute, clarinet, mandolins and musical saw to the outright curiosity that is their homebuilt Theremin.

Never failing to entertain as a live band, Catherine and the Owl have received praise from the music press for their debut E.P ‘I’ and have twice featured as Exeter FM’s band of the week.

Praise for Catherine And The Owl:

“CATO balance, violently dramatic emotions and themes with an inventive acoustic style and meticulous playing.” – Mark Dishman of Rocks Magazine.

“Possibly one of the most powerful, haunting tracks I’ve heard in a long time” – James Santer of Exeter FM on the track ‘The Cellar Song.’

“These songs are not just extraordinary, they possess strong melodies and memorable guitar lines to win over even the most hardened indie purist.” – Dave Urwin of Live Music Scene, review of EP ‘I.’
